Going to the dentist when you were a kid was probably not a fun experience. Most of us remember when dentists had very few ways to help you feel more comfortable in the dental chair, which meant you had to suffer in fear while the dentist worked on your teeth. That is NOT the way dentistry works any longer.
Are you afraid to even pick up the phone to call the dentist because all you can think about is the terrible experiences you had as a child? We don’t blame you for feeling afraid, but our Carmel, IN, dentist office has transformed the dental experience, and we know you’ll be glad to see what we have available to you!
With sedation dentistry available in several forms, there is never a reason for our patients to feel fear in our office! Let’s take a look at how sedation has changed dentistry and how patients feel about going to the dentist.
The good news for patients who don’t like the dentist is the fact that going to the dentist is always a new experience! We are constantly improving the way that we do things, including how we are able to care for our patients’ fears and anxiety.
Your next dental appointment can be the most comfortable appointment you’ve ever had, and that is saying a lot! The fear you used to feel doesn’t have to exist any longer because dental sedation can give you the relaxed feeling you need to not only help you through your current appointment, but to change how you feel about going to the dentist.
There’s no reason to fear the dentist when you have sedation options on your side. You can explore several sedation options as each has benefits that you may not be considering. Sedation as a whole is there to help transform your dental experience. Take a look at our sedation options below to get a better idea of how we can support you while you are in the chair.
Nitrous Oxide – The most common form of sedation is nitrous oxide. It has an immediate affect and wears off within minutes after we remove the mask. This makes it perfect for patients who need to get back to work after an appointment.
Oral Conscious Sedation – A deeper form of sedation can be found with oral sedation. This is a pill form that will keep you sedated for several hours. You will need to take it about an hour before your appointment, and you will need someone who can drive you to and from your appointment, as you will be pretty groggy!
General Anesthesia – For patients who suffer from extreme anxiety or are undergoing major dental work, we recommend general anesthesia. We have a certified anesthesiologist come into the office and perform this sedation. It is great for patients who want no memory or sensation during their entire procedure.
NuCalm Relaxation – If you are interested in sedation but don’t want to be “drugged” during an appointment, NuCalm is an option for you. The system cuts your adrenaline and induces a sleep-like state through completely natural means. You’ll feel relaxed and refreshed when you wake up, and you don’t have to worry about the medication!
Seeing the dentist is not something you can just skip because you are afraid. You need to see the dentist so that you can maintain your health and happy lifestyle. Don’t forget that your oral health is a window to your total health; an unhealthy mouth generally means an unhealthy body.
